Short version (3 min.)

“Luis Valls helped us even though he didn’t know us at all, and I’m sure there are many stories similar to mine.”

Ana Coloma is a woman whose fighting spirit in the face of difficulties has defined her throughout her life. She has faced challenging moments as a mother, grandmother, and homemaker. The most significant was when her husband was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. This disease at the time had no treatment beyond palliative care, which came with a high economic cost. In the face of adversity, Ana wrote a letter to Luis Valls, president of Banco Popular, seeking help.

What began as a desperate attempt to find a solution turned into a lesson in humanity. Luis Valls responded quickly, offering assistance that alleviated her family’s financial burden and gave them the hope to face their situation. Valls’ gesture was not just financial aid; it was an act of empathy and understanding that left a deep mark on Ana and her family.

For Ana, Luis Valls’ attitude demonstrates that true greatness puts people at the center of decisions. Despite his position, Valls was approachable, making no distinctions, and always willing to help without expecting anything in return. This gesture inspired in Ana a profound gratitude that endures to this day, as she repeatedly says, “he didn’t know us at all.”

Through her story, which she believes “there are many others out there similar to mine,” Ana becomes emotional as she recounts how Luis Valls stood out for his humanity, generosity, and ability to do good without seeking recognition—quite the opposite. Luis Valls left a legacy of kindness and approachability, and Ana expresses infinite gratitude for his example, her voice trembling with emotion, nearly unable to finish the story.
